Our traditional events
New Students Meeting
The CSSA new students meeting is organized once every year for students mainly coming from China and other mandarin speaking countries. It provides an opportunity for new students to learn experiences, ask questions and connect with current students. The meeting is conducted in Chinese and usually before the semester starts.
Chinese National Day Celebration
The Chinese National Day celebration acts as an ice-breaking event for students coming from China. It provides an opportunity for the local Chinese community to gather together, and for Chinese students to meet new friends. This event is celebrated annually on October 1.
CSSA Lecture
Every year CSSA hosts the lecture event to bring the community together and have an engaging learning experience outside the confines of the classroom. The idea of the CSSA lecture is to bring well-known speakers to the TRU campus, at little cost to the local community, to bridge misunderstandings between different cultures. The lecture event covers economic, political and cultural topics and has become a popular event among students and faculties.

Spring Festival Gala
Spring Festival Gala was initially introduced by China Central Television and is the most-watched entertainment show globally, recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records.
Watching the Spring Festival Gala show has been a tradition of Chinese people for many years. Family members return to where they were born and raised to reunite with their parents to spend the night together. They prepare meals for the entire family and enjoy the meal while watching this show.

Chinese Movie Screening
Kamloops theatres usually do not screen Chinese movies and this has been a long demand from our members. CSSA works with Cineplex and Kamloops Film Society to put up the most requested Chinese movies here in Kamloops.
