News Release
Kamloops, British Columbia —— Chinese Students & Scholars Association at Thompson Rivers University announces spring festival gala to celebrate the year of the rabbit. This is the first in-person new yew celebration CSSA has brought back since the start of the pandemic.
Spring Festival, also known as the Chinese new year, is the biggest festival in China based on the traditional lunisolar calendar. In the ancient Chinese calendar, a year is divided into 24 solar terms and the first solar term is “LiChun 立春”, which means the start of spring.
The spring festival gala however, is a Chinese new year special broadcasted annually and internationally through the China Global Television Network and has the largest audience of any entertainment show in the world, and is recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s most watched television program. The history of the Chinese spring festival gala goes back to early 1983 operating on a very low budget in a studio of about 600 square meters (6,500 square feet).
Watching the Spring Festival Gala show has been a tradition of Chinese people for many years. Family members return to where they were born and raised to reunite with their parents to spend the night together. They prepare meals for the entire family and enjoy the meal while watching this show.
TRUSU Chinese Students & Scholars Association proudly presents the 2023 Spring Festival Gala, the first in-person lunar new year celebration after the pandemic. We sincerely invite you to join us for a great evening, enjoying a Chinese buffet and many outstanding performances from TRU international students.
