TRU Chinese Student Scholars Association Strengthens Ties with Kamloops Chinese Cultural Association

Kamloops, British Columbia —— Today, members of the Thompson Rivers University Chinese Students & Scholars Association convened for a significant meeting with Joe Leong, the distinguished executive director of the Kamloops Chinese Cultural Association.

Mr. Leong, a former Kamloops city councillor , played a pivotal role in the establishment of the  Chinese Students & Scholars Association alongside TRU professor Warveni Jap in 2002. Over the course of more than two decades, this association has evolved into a cultural powerhouse, wielding substantial influence in the local and surrounding regions.

This meeting not only revisited the historical inception of the association but also delved into a thoughtful discussion about future collaboration. Mr. Leong shared the original intent behind the association’s founding – to strengthen ties with China and provide essential support to Chinese students pursuing education in Canada. Discussions also encompassed detailed planning for the upcoming 2024 Chinese New Year celebration. Both the Chinese Student Scholars Association and Mr. Joe Leong expressed their commitment to intensify bilateral exchanges, contributing jointly to the promotion of Chinese culture in Canada.

Mr. Leong emphasized that moving forward, the two organizations will forge a closer partnership, deepening their collaborative efforts to promote Chinese culture in Canadian society and making outstanding contributions to cross-cultural integration.
