Event Details
- Title: Is your DEI implementation good or bad?
- Date: November 21st
- Time: 4:30 PM
- Location: HOL 190
DEI, which stands for diversity, equity, and inclusion, has been a hot – topic in various fields lately. The implementation of DEI initiatives can have far-reaching consequences, either being counterproductive despite good intentions or bringing great benefits to everyone involved. This event aims to shed light on this complex issue.
We are honored to have Wai Hung Ma as our guest speaker. Wai, an entrepreneur and professional speaker, has an inspiring life story. Despite being born with multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy, he has overcome numerous obstacles and developed a positive philosophy that has transformed his life. His journey from helplessness to a life filled with meaning and purpose is a testament to the power of determination and positive thinking.
Wai firmly believes in the value of taking risks. He understands that failure, which often accompanies risks, is a stepping – stone to success. His enthusiasm is infectious, and his message of choosing positive energy and thoughts has resonated with many. Even when others doubted his ability to communicate clearly, he chose the path of public speaking to share his experiences and insights.
During the event, Wai will share his thoughts on DEI implementation. He will draw on his unique perspective to discuss how well – intentioned DEI efforts can sometimes go astray and how they can be optimized to benefit all. We will also explore practical applications such as the Universal Design for Learning (UDL), which is closely related to DEI. The example of curb cuts and ramps, which were designed initially for the benefit of wheelchair users but have proven advantageous for the general public, will be used to illustrate the power of inclusive design within the context of DEI.
TRUCSSA encourages all students, scholars, and interested parties to attend this event. It will be an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of DEI implementation and be inspired by Wai Hung Ma’s remarkable journey and insights.
We look forward to seeing you at this exciting and thought – provoking event!
